The second son of John and Alice Coltrane, Ravi Coltrane began playing clarinet at an early age, eventually switching to saxophone. In 1991, his father’s renowned drummer, Elvin Jones, saw something in Ravi and hired him. He suddenly found himself alongside a veritable “Who’s Who” of legendary jazz and pop players, attaining a huge amount of knowledge and skill. His sincere tone and transcendent compositions have earned considerable accolades from the harshest of critics and the most discerning fans. Not one to hide in the shadow of greatness, Ravi honors his father in the best way possible, by building a career on talent rather than his name.
