Hermeto Pascoal, one of Brazil’s most eccentric, prolific and treasured composers has long since defied labels. A virtuoso pianist, accordionist and flautist, Pascoal also prefers rather more unconventional ways of producing sounds and songs, including chairs, pints of beer, kitchen utensils and body parts, which are just a few of his unique “tools.” Calling him a multi-instrumentalist barely scrapes the surface of this deeply innovative musician who has performed with the likes of Miles Davis, John Lennon and Antonio Carlos Jobim.
