Erik Jekabson channels the muse of West Coast jazz icon Chet Baker for this special concert. Baker, a tragic figure, nonetheless left behind a rich musical legacy that still influences countless musicians. For jazz fans of the 1950s, he was the epitome of the ‘cool’ West Coast sound – harmonic and melodic sophistication simmering on low heat. Bay Area trumpeter/vocalist Jekabson has tapped into that legacy with help from Smith Dobson V – tenor sax and vocals; Jon Monahan – guitar; John Wiitala – bass; and Akira Tana – drums. While highlighting the music of Baker, Jekabson brings his own inventive interpretation to Baker’s style.
