“…a gentle virtuoso…” – New York Times
The musical path of guitarist/vocalist Lionel Loueke brought him from his birthplace of Benin, to the Ivory Coast, Paris, Boston’s Berklee School of Music and USC’s Thelonious Monk Institute. Throughout his journey, he caught the attention of Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Terence Blanchard and many others who jumpstarted his career as a first-call sideman. As a bandleader, Loueke explores his roots and the frets on his guitar in a truly fluid and uninhibited way, as shown on his newest offering, Heritage (Blue Note) produced by label-mate Robert Glasper. His current trio includes drummer Mark Guiliana and bassist Michael Olatuja.
