A headliner at major festivals around the world, Teada (pronounced TAY-da and meaning ‘strings’ in the Irish language) was founded in 2001 by All-Ireland Fiddle Champion Oisin Mac Diarmada who is also the music director of the popular season entertainment Irish Christmas in America (ICIA).

Indeed, it will be beginning to feel a lot like Christmas as joining Oisin, hailed in the Irish Echo as ‘one of the most gifted and creative traditional fiddlers playing today,’ will be the featured guest star of the past couple tours of ICIA, the mighty lifeforce, West Kerry’s ebullient button accordionsit and one of the sweetest singers you could ever hope to hear, Seamus Begley who became a full-fledged member of Teada in March, at which time Begely & Mac Diarmada also released a dazzling debut CD as duo, ‘Le Cheile’ (Together).

Other Teada members have also appeared in earlier incarnations of ICIA; Tristan Rosenstock on bodhran, Paul Finn on button accordion, Damien Stenson on flute and Sean Mcelwain on guitar and bouzouki.

Teada revels in the vibrant traditional music of Ireland as inherited from previous generations of musicians. Deftly playing up the structural intricacies while preserving the contagious energy inherent in the repretoire, the group strives to capture a sense of the rawness and individuality of the solo artist within a modern group context.

The recent release of Teada’s fourth CD, ‘Ceol & Cuimhne’ (Music & Memory), provoked raves from the Irish Echo, ‘This is best album of Irish instrumental music I’ve heard so far this year’ and from the the Irish Times, ‘There’s a rich sense of continuity in the sets and of boundless energy bereft of egotism in the playing.’

You’re sure to want to make an anagram and make ‘a date’ for Teada.
