Master Class Series: The Supportive Roll of the Rhythm Section

The rhythm section is the foundation of a group. It is often responsible for setting the mood, harmony, and rhythmic feel of a piece of music. Scott Sorkin (guitar), John Shifflett (bass) and Jason Lewis (drums) will demonstrate various approaches to playing cohesively and creatively as a guitar–based rhythm section. Arranging a song, creating a vibe for a tune, and interplay between the players will be shown through performance. Discussion of these techniques from the perspective of each instrument will follow. All instruments and levels are encouraged to attend. A short length of time may be available for those who would like to sit in with the trio.
