“…one of the most dynamic young players in jazz.” – Chicago Tribune
Since bursting onto the New York scene in 1989, saxophonist Chris Potter has become a force of nature as a player, composer and arranger. His accomplishments include sixteen albums as a leader with guest appearances on over 150 albums. He has gained accolades from the likes of Sonny Rollins, Dave Liebman and countless other saxophone icons. Despite having collaborated with Steely Dan, Herbie Hancock, John Scofield and more, the true nature of Potter’s talents can best be seen with his quartet. His newest release, The Sirens (March 2013) is Potter’s ECM debut as a leader, an album of mood and melody inspired by The Odyssey – both its epic atmosphere and its timeless humanity. This date includes Potter on tenor and soprano saxophones and bass clarinet, David Virelles (piano), Larry Grenadier (bass) and Eric Harland (drums). Potter declaims lyrical lines over the dynamically inventive rhythm section, as coloristic keyboards shimmer like stars in the night sky.
