As their mantra states, Santa Cruz band Wasabi offers a highly viable, heavily rockin’ and very righteous “funk rock future,” featuring bassist Dan Robbins, drummer Alex Work and guitar-slinger Ron Work, Wasabi’s collective stage credits include performances with luminaries such as Maceo Parker, Lee Scratch Perry and Dick Dale, forming a varied, yet accurate, testament to where the soul of this band lies. Their new album Wide Open is filled with full-tilt instrumental rallying, smooth melodicism and plenty of glorious twists and turns.
