”… rich layers of emotional subtlety.” – Los Angeles Times

Tuck and Patti’s winning blend of pop and jazz has earned a loyal following throughout the world. With Patti Cathcart’s expressive vocals and Tuck Andress’ fluid guitar stylings, no other musical accompaniment seems necessary for this globe-trotting twosome. It was a lesson learned early on in their career; for them, the duo format was the perfect vehicle. Whether performing a Great American Songbook standard, a ballad by Jimi Hendrix, or one of their own original compositions, Tuck and Patti make the music come alive. I Remember You is their latest CD.

Tuck Andress, originally from Oklahoma, studied classical guitar at Stanford University before meeting Patti Cathcart at a band audition in Las Vegas, in 1980. Cathcart, a classically-trained vocalist, had grown up in San Francisco with an appreciation for all styles of music: R&B, jazz, blues, pop, and opera, all played a part in her development. The two forged an immediate bond through music; it was a bond that edged into their personal relationship and eventually led to them becoming husband and wife. Since 1981, California has been their “base of operations,” from which they tour the world. In performing together, Cathcart and Andress soon found that they preferred the duo format to working in a larger group context. The Windham Hill label signed them in1987, a fruitful liaison that produced nine recordings and lasted until 2001. Since 2001, they’ve recorded for their own label: 33rd Street Records.

Tuck and Patti have built a musical career based not only on artistic excellence, but on making a sincere, heartfelt connection with their audiences. It’s a connection reciprocated by their loyal fans and is at the foundation of the duo’s long-standing popularity. The Boston Globe described their musical empathy this way, “If ever a musical pair embodied the term ‘simpatico’ it would be Tuck Andress and singer Patti Cathcart. The duo’s knack for original interpretations of other people’s songs remains their strong suit. Unencumbered yet passionate arrangements display the sort of panache that elevate Tuck and Patti above the ‘jazz brunch’ moniker, and underscore their music’s timeless beauty.” In other words, Tuck and Patti are the perfect Valentine’s Day concert experience, and Kuumbwa is the perfect place to hear it.
