The Kuumbwa Jazz Honor Band is an all-star ensemble of high school musicians representing all of Santa Cruz County. The band program provides a workshop for developing the students’ jazz repertoire, improvisation and performance skills. For over a decade, Kuumbwa Jazz has provided this unique opportunity to deserving musicians. It is an integral aspect of our mission and enormous purpose and pride go into improving the program each year.
The Honor Band has been jamming around town this past school year, including swingin’ sets at Bocci’s and Shadowbrook. Dedicated music educator and trombonist Steve Wilson directs the band. Auditions for the 2013-14 Jazz Honor Band will be held in the fall.
