A figurative artist, South County artist Carol Bowie’s work exhibits a sense of freedom and spontaneity that are guided by intuitive impulses and responses from her contemporary interior landscape. She employs various media: painting, printmaking, clay, and mixed media in her creative expression. An Open Studio artist for more two decades, exhibiting work locally and throughout California, her work can also be found in private and corporate collections locally, nationally, and abroad. Bowie’s work is on permanent display at the Santa Cruz County Government Center, and significant pieces have recently been acquired from the Betty Heil’s private collection at the Santa Cruz Museum of Art. Bowie also served as a board member for the Santa Cruz Arts Commission and committee member for the Cultural Council’s annual Open Studio Arts event. She has been honored for her work, receiving awards for the field of excellence in the field of creativity and service, “The Gail Rich Award” and “Distinguished Artist of the Year.”

DJ Vinnie Esparza has been a fixture on the San Francisco DJ circuit since 1994. His diverse sets range from soul, funk, jazz, and hip hop to Afro-Latin, bossa nova, reggae, and club beats. Born and raised in Oakland, California, Vinnie began his career in music at college radio station KZSC in Santa Cruz, California where he served as Music Director, a member of the station governing board and an on-air personality between 1990-1994. Upon graduating, he moved to San Francisco where he began a series of ongoing club parties, many of which are still going strong today. He has opened for such acts as Tito Puente, Jamiroquai, Lee Perry, Bebel Gilberto, Mongo Santamaria, The Meters, Jimmy Smith, Eddie Palmieri, Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Scientist, Brother Jack McDuff, Greyboy All Stars, McCoy Tyner, Lee Fields and The Abyssinians among others. Vinnie has also appeared at the Monterey and Quebec City Jazz Festivals. For his sets at Kuumbwa Jazz, he will focus mostly on the funky jazz sounds from the late 60s and early 70s with touches of Latin jazz.  And yes, he still spins vinyl records.
