Kuumbwa Jazz Honor Band; Wednesday, May 28, 2014

(SANTA CRUZ, CA) – Come down and hear these talented young musicians perform their grand finale concert on the Kuumbwa stage on Wednesday, May 28. The Kuumbwa Jazz Honor Band features Santa Cruz County’s most gifted young jazz musicians, representing six area high schools and led by noted pianist and composer, Eddie Mendenhall, with assistance from tenor saxophonist, Dillon Baiocchi. The audition-based jazz band challenges students to gain a mastery of improvisation techniques while advancing their knowledge of music theory, arranging, composing, performance, and jazz history. Now in its 16th season, the Kuumbwa Jazz Honor Band program has provided this unique opportunity to deserving young musicians, some of whom have gone on to successful careers as jazz musicians and composers. Auditions for the 2014-15 Jazz Honor Band will be held in the fall.
