Booker T. Jones stands tall in the American legacy of rhythm & blues as a GRAMMY Lifetime Achievement Award recipient. In the ’60s, his band, Booker T. & The M.G.s, was a staple of Top-40 radio with hit instrumentals. They also helped define the Stax label sound by serving as a backup band for many important soul singers, including the great Otis Redding. When the M.G.s went their separate ways, Jones went on to wear a multitude of hats: producing, composing, and collaborating with new groups. With the revival of interest in the Hammond B-3 sound, Booker T. carves out another chapter in his illustrious career. His latest CD on the revitalized Stax Label (Concord Music Group) Sound The Alarm (featuring Gary Clark, Jr.) finds Jones at his most soulful in years.
