“… individuality and authenticity.” – London Jazz News
Vocalist extraordinaire and Grammy award-winner Cassandra Wilson has produced a stunning array of music over the years. As a founding member of the M-Base Collective whose creative reworking of jazz and pop forms invigorated the early ’80s, it was her deep, velvety and haunting contralto that caught the attention of the jazz literati. A singer possessed of a remarkably flexible approach, at home belting out jazz chestnuts, caressing banjo-tinged country spirituals and inhabiting the deepest Delta blues. She claimed DownBeat magazine’s Jazz Vocalist of the Year honors for three consecutive years, won a Grammy for her 1996 Blue Note release, New Moon Daughter, and was named “America’s Best Singer” by Time magazine.
