“Wainapel displayed incredible intimacy with the language of Brazilian music and great stage presence.” –– O Globo
Reedman Harvey Wainapel’s long love affair with Brazilian music has been unwavering. He has performed extensively with Airto Moreira & Flora Purim, Jovino Santos Neto, Guinga, and Claudia Villela among many others. Wainapel has explored the length and breadth of Brazil for the past 14 years, and now presents the latest results of his research and encounters in his new CD Amigos Brasileiros Vol. 2. Ranging from traditional-style choro to contemporary takes on folkloric rhythms, this CD release concert will feature two special guests from Brazil: pianist Vitor Gonçalves has toured internationally with Maria Bethânia, performs with Anat Cohen, and is the piano “sub” in Hermeto Pascoal’s group; drummer/percussionist Cleber Almeida is a member of Banda Mantiqueira and performs with Hamilton de Holanda. Joining them will be bassist Scott Thompson (Chico Pinheiro) and percussionist Brian Rice (Mike Marshall’s Choro Famoso), and of course Harvey on saxes and clarinet.
