“…a higher echelon of musicianship…. a talented singer with a compelling sound that’s earned her well-deserved staying power.” –Jennifer Odell, Downbeat Magazine
“…subtlety of phrases and suppleness of tone. Plenty of Sarah Vaughan in this singing–you can hear it in swooping gestures and dramatic leaps from high to low.” –Howard Reich, Chicago Tribune
Kimberly Gordon is a vivacious and velvet-voiced Chicago veteran who returns to delight Bay Area jazz fans after more than a decade of success in the Windy City. Lauded by Wynton Marsalis and 2014 Grammy winner Neil Tesser alike, Gordon sings and swings with a unique talent, always true to the melody as written, with loving respect for masters Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, and Carmen McRae. With a natural timbre that evokes McRae, Kimberly Gordon will reprise some favorite Carmen McRae tunes, accompanied by beloved local legend Marshall Otwell, McRae’s pianist for years, from New York to Montreux to the West Coast, with Seward McCain on bass and Mike Shannon on drums.
